VP, Corporate Controller

Kyverna is recruiting a highly motivated VP, Finance (Corporate Controller), to help advance its mission to free patients from the siege of autoimmune disease. The Controller will be the senior-most member of the accounting team, and trusted partner of the CFO. The role will be responsible for all accounting and financial reporting activities including optimizing the close process, strengthening and maintaining internal controls in a SOX-compliant manner, and managing key relationships with external accounting and audit service providers.
The successful candidate will have public biotech company experience with the ability to meet SEC reporting requirements. Responsibilities
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting of Kyverna’s financial statements under GAAP.
- Develop new and improve existing financial policies, procedures, and controls to support growth, including SOX-compliance.
- Provide leadership for financial operations, processes, and systems to support the growth and scaling of the company, including oversight of the monthly and quarterly general ledger close, accounts payable, payroll, and equity administration.
- Stay abreast of key technical accounting pronouncements, analyzing risks and benefits.
- Oversee external reporting process to ensure timely SEC filings, including coordinating with key executives, audit firm, and legal.
- Manage the analysis of monthly trends, flux analysis, and budget vs. actual variance analysis ensuring the integrity and accuracy of financial statements and supporting data.
- Review key contracts and agreements in partnership with our Legal team, identifying areas with potentially complex accounting treatment.
- Prepare materials for the Board of Directors and Audit Committee meetings.
- Monitor the company’s tax reporting and filing requirements.
- Lead, mentor, and grow a dedicated team of finance professionals.

Requirements
- CPA and Bachelor's or Master's in Finance, Accounting or Business required.
- 15+ years of professional experience in accounting, including 5 + years of experience in a public biotech company. (Big 4 audit experience is a plus.)
- Demonstrated ability to build and develop teams to achieve business objectives.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of US GAAP accounting principles.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfort with uncertainty and demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment under tight timelines and independently determine appropriate action where precedent may not exist.
- Detail-oriented and results-driven with bias for action and sense of urgency.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with high expectations and ability to effectively manage multiple competing priorities effectively.
- Strong project management skills and experience managing multiple vendors and external partners.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to influence, collaborate, resolve conflicts, and build consensus with diverse stakeholders.
The salary range for candidates residing in California for this position is $300,000 USD to $325,000 USD annually. This salary range is an estimate of what we reasonably expect to pay for this posted position, and the actual salary may vary based on various factors, including without limitation geographic location, individual education, experience, tenure, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. This position is also eligible for bonus, benefits, and participation in Company’s stock option plan.
