Gregory J. Giotta, PhD, JD is Chief Legal Counsel at Kyverna. Prior to Kyverna he was Senior Vice President, Intellectual Property for Cell Design Labs from 2015 to 2018. At Cell Design Labs, Greg oversaw patents and licensing, and he was responsible for the procurement of a number of critical patents relating to Cell Design Labs base technology, SynNotch, which was licensed from the University of California.
Prior to Cell Design Labs, from June 1995 to 2013 Greg was Vice President and Chief Legal Counsel at Onyx Pharmaceuticals, where he was responsible for all matters relating to licensing and intellectual property, including litigation. Prior to Onyx, Dr. Giotta served as Vice President and Chief Intellectual Property Attorney at Glycomed Corporation, a biotechnology company, from 1992 to 1995. Prior to Glycomed he was a Senior Patent Attorney at Cetus Corporation. Prior to Cetus, he was a member in the San Diego law firm, Brown and Martin.
Dr. Giotta earned a PhD from the University of California at Santa Cruz, and a J.D. from the University of San Diego. He did postdoctoral research stents at Harvard and the Salk Institute. He is admitted to practice law before the California Supreme Court, United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the United States Patent and Trademark Office. His professional affiliations include the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the American Bar Association, the San Francisco Intellectual Property Law Association, and the Licensing Executive Society.
